Recording Studio Furniture and ArrangementWe have all encountered that problem of nesting wires lack of power plugs, shifty furniture set-ups that hold your equipment unstable. With all of this thrown into an unorganized studio and you will not end up getting any work done, and if you do, you may not be able to resurrect your project after say a month, or maybe a year. With a little bit of planning before you start setting up your recording studio furniture can dramatically increase your productivity. Extend your Session TimeFirst things first, lets start with your chair, that is going to make or break how comfortable you are while sitting at your workstation for long periods of time. An ideal chair is one that has wheels, freedom to roll anywhere you may need to, and nonrestrictive arms on the chair that may get in the way. Lumbar and general back support are also something you will want to consider, depending on how long your studio sessions usually last. Cheap chairs you can grab for about $30-50 but for a top of the line orthopedic chair you may end up paying $500-1500. Recording Studio DeskNow onto the big stuff, your recording studio desk doesn't have to look nice (although we all want it to) but functionality takes priority here. A multi tiered desk to fit monitor, mixing/midi console, and both pc and midi keyboard is best, and it must be big enough to have a good spot to place your studio speakers. Remember that your speakers should be place at ear level to where you are sitting so that you can hear all sound clear and accurately. Recording studio desks can be expensive $1500-3000, so this is where some woodworking skills, or innovation can really pay off and save you money when expensing a studio set up. Additional StorageNow your computer, over the years computers have played more of a role in the recording/production studio set-ups, in some cases encompassing the entire studio in itself. With more of a demand on computers themselves, hard drive failures and corrupt hardware is becoming more common, this is why and important back up system should be in place for all of your work files, this way if anything goes haywire you may only loose your last unsaved work an within the time of a reformat you'll be up back and running with out a giant data recovery bill from your local computer specialist. As far as basic back up systems you will only need a small spot to place your portable hard drive or a shelf /cabinet to hold your back up DVD's and CD's. Wall hanging cabinets are very handy and utilize some of the unused wall space when planning out your recording studio furniture. Routing CablesWhen dealing with that giant birds nest of wires you will want to use cable routing hose or troughs to run several cables, zip ties are also a great aid and can be color coded to easily identify any cables that may commonly be rerouted on a demand basis. With all of this said it is easy to spend $5,000 on recording studio furniture alone. Plan carefully and shop around, specialty items like this see to vary quite a bit in price depending on the retailer.
